You do not have to completely remodel your bathroom or hire an interior designer to have a beautifully elegant bathroom design. Regardless of flooring or whether you have porcelain or granite countertops or something else, these five elements can really transform your bathroom decor.

Choose artwork and décor

It might seem counterintuitive to start with the finishing touches. Yet a piece of artwork can really inspire the color palette that you use. Maybe you know generally that you would like to go with a specific color palette. However, selecting a piece to serve as inspiration can help you to ensure that you are selecting colors that will complement each other and the decor that you will later put in the room. It does not matter what the actual piece is. Maybe it is a picture, a vase, a shower curtain. No matter what the piece is, it is helpful to start with something to inspire your color coordination.

Decide how involved you want your design to be

Are you doing a superficial change or an entire remodel? If the sink, tub, and countertops are generally in good condition, you might be able to get away with just some superficial changes with the paint and decor. But, if you need to change these, granite countertops can give an elegant appearance to a small bathroom space. They also come in a variety of colors, matching almost any color palette. You can also re-purpose any remnant pieces from these by integrating them into shower tiles or using them for trim.

Select wall and trim coloring

The choices are endless when it comes to wall coverings. For starters though, you have to decide between wallpaper or paint. If you find a particular design that you like, your wallpaper might even be the artwork that serves as inspiration for your bathroom. However, wallpaper can be difficult and tedious to remove down the line. Also, it is important to take into account how your wall covering will withstand moisture. If you decide to go with wallpaper, be sure to select one that is waterproof, as moisture can cause it to peel.

On the other hand, if you are likely to change the color in the near future, paint can certainly be an easier option that requires less commitment. Another advantage is that many stores that sell paint now offer paint-matching. Therefore, you can achieve even greater color coordination. All the same, you will want to make sure that you select a semi-gloss or gloss paint because it can withstand the moisture better. Also, particularly if you are working with a small space, you will want to select a lighter color. Light colors help to make the room appear larger.

For your bathroom trim, you can paint it with a gloss paint. Or if you have any granite remnants, you can use those as a very elegant trim to tie your granite countertops in with the rest of the bathroom. You can cut them to fit and line the windowsill or the floor with it.

Change hardware

Hardware can be a very easy fix that can quickly transform the appearance of your bathroom. You can change the towel rack, toilet paper holder, cabinet fixtures, and shower curtain rod very easily to match the rest of your decor. It also can be reasonably inexpensive and easy to change out the faucets, which again can completely transform the appearance of your sink and shower area.

Add bathroom accessories

Bathroom accessories are the final touches that still can have a huge impact on tying the decor together. Of course, you will have already likely selected a piece of artwork as your inspiration. Now, you can select a number of additional accessories to match the new palette. Things like towels, throw rugs, shower curtains, and window treatments can all be selected to enhance the decor. You can also select either a hand soap or a soap dispenser that matches your theme. Finally, you can create the perfect ambiance by adding a scented candle and some type of plant that helps to enliven the room.

Little touches, as you’ve seen from our recommendations in this article, can make a strong impact on the final result. Of course, having high quality materials from the start are irreplaceable. Granite countertops can undoubtedly add a touch of elegance to the room. However, depending on your budget, there are a number of superficial changes that can be made if an entire remodel is not in the budget.
