Add Glamor To Your Bathroom With These Simple Ideas
Your bathroom is more than just a functional area; it is your personal sanctuary where you get to unwind and indulge yourself or where you prepare for the day ahead or perhaps pamper yourself pre a big night out. So it makes sense you’d like it to be soothing yet sophisticated, and reflective of the design theme of your home. Short of going for a full bathroom makeover, here are some simple ways you can add glamor to your bathroom. The trend for neutral base color schemes and cleans fresh lines serves as the perfect foundation for glitzy design elements that pop.
High gloss glamor
Adding shine and sparkle with materials such as glass and metal creates a sense of opulence. For example stainless steel fixtures and accessories or glass tiles used to frame a well-placed quality mirror. Less is more though so don’t overdo it; the idea is to accentuate. Too much glitz is overpowering and loses its impact.
Add detail and drama
Color and texture are highly effective at introducing elements of luxury to your bathroom.
Bright, lush jewel tones scream glamor while contrasting black and white tiles give an understated elegance. If you’re keen to stay with more neutral tones, use different shaped and textured tiles in natural colors; placed in a distinctive tile pattern to form the backsplash area around the basin or tub they will create visual interest and deliver continuity. Or bring nature indoors by using river rocks instead of tiles for a truly unique luxury look. If you prefer a more dramatic effect, dress one of the walls with distinctive wallpaper or paint it a different color.
Create a focal point
Nothing draws attention like a statement piece such as a freestanding tub or a unique vintage gilded mirror. A lovely rug or runner is warm underfoot and as with a beautiful stool or seat can also add color and texture. Or create visual interest with a screen in rich color for extra privacy or an unusual vanity or basin in copper, marble or granite. Elegantly framed black and white photos add drama or for a more aquiline feel, go for blue and green washed prints.
Illumination
When choosing lighting for your bathroom you’ll want it to not only add ambiance but be functional too so you can see what you’re doing, like having well-placed spots bordering your mirror so you can see adequately when applying make-up or a cleansing mask. The lighting fixtures however, can be a source of opulence in and of themselves; add glamorous flair with crystal sconces, a chandelier or a special lampshade. Lovely large mirrors further increase the light reflected.
Neat and tidy
To help keep your bathroom looking fresh and inviting, use lovely containers and jars to store your shampoos, conditioners and other beauty treatments. Strategically placed built-in shelves can also serve to display your fancy toiletries, extra hand towels for guests and select ornaments, or even potted fern which thrives in the moist environment of a bathroom.
