Kirk Yamatani and his wife had lived in their Broadlands, Virginia home since it was built in 1999 — and while they loved the house, they knew the kitchen needed help. Builder-grade finishes that had been fine years ago were showing their age, and the layout presented a challenge that stumped every contractor they interviewed: the home was built with a series of unusual angles, and a conventional kitchen design simply would not work. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath found the solution no one else could.

The Yamatanis wanted more than a cosmetic refresh. They were looking for a modern, open, and highly functional kitchen that honored the unique architecture of their home — not one that ignored it. Non-structural walls were coming out, the space was going to open up, and everything from cabinetry to countertops needed to feel cohesive and purposeful. The challenge was finding a designer skilled enough to turn a complicated floor plan into a beautiful, functional kitchen. Kirk found Bull Run Kitchen & Bath through a flyer in the local paper — a discovery that turned out to be one of the best things to happen to their Loudoun County kitchen remodel.
Design & Materials:
The breakthrough idea was deceptively simple and completely original: lead designer Charlie proposed building an angled island to mirror the angles already present in the home. It was a genuinely creative solution that no one had considered before. Rather than fighting the architecture, the design would celebrate it, creating a kitchen island that fit the space as if it had always belonged there. From that insight forward, Charlie guided the Yamatanis through every decision — cabinetry styles, color palettes, hardware finishes, and countertop selections — ensuring that each element worked together and reflected the couple's taste. The result was a kitchen that Kirk and his wife describe as their dream come true: modern where it needed to be, warm where it mattered, and perfectly suited to their daily life. The kitchen remodel addressed the full scope of what a Loudoun County home built in 1999 needed to feel current: updated cabinetry, new countertops, refreshed surfaces, and the kind of thoughtful spatial planning that makes a kitchen both beautiful and practical.
The Transformation Process:
The project was not without its challenges. COVID-related supply delays impacted appliance and material delivery timelines, creating uncertainty at several points during the remodel. Despite those external pressures, Bull Run's communication remained excellent throughout. Charlie and his crew kept the Yamatanis informed, managed expectations honestly, and responded quickly whenever an issue arose. If something was not right — and in any remodel, small things occasionally need adjustment — Charlie's team addressed it immediately without pushback. That responsiveness made the entire experience feel collaborative rather than transactional.

Testimonial:
“We were pleasantly surprised at the amazing design that our lead designer Charlie was able to do for us. It was his vision to make an angled island to fit some of the angles of our home — which doesn't sound like a big deal, but no one had ever presented this option to us before, and we fell in love with the design.”
