After 25 years in their Bethesda, Maryland home, B and Louise were ready for a kitchen that finally matched the life they lived in it. The original layout was dark, the peninsula configuration was inefficient, and a renovation done 17 years earlier had done little to address the fundamental issues with the space. They needed a complete kitchen remodel — but they were not sure how to approach it. Then they walked into the Bull Run Kitchen & Bath showroom, met designer Charlie, and spent the next two and a half hours discovering that not only was a beautiful solution possible, it was going to be better than anything they had imagined. The result is a two-tone quartz kitchen in Bethesda that surpassed their expectations in every way.

This Bethesda kitchen remodeling project was defined by one central challenge: the room was long and narrow, and the original layout did not make good use of the space. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath designer Charlie rethought the entire configuration from the ground up. The peninsula was eliminated and replaced with an extended L-shaped island that dramatically improved workflow, storage, and the social dynamic of the kitchen. The island was designed to include a dishwasher, a multi-purpose sink, a built-in trash area, and a drawer microwave at one end — keeping the main cooking area clean and unobstructed. An L-shaped seating extension at the far end of the island created a gathering spot that keeps the communication flowing between the kitchen and the adjacent living space. A custom hutch section was added adjacent to the kitchen to serve as a coffee bar and beverage center, complete with glass-front upper cabinets for displaying statement pieces and a built-in French-door beverage refrigerator. Two tall pantry cabinets were integrated between the kitchen and hutch areas, expanding storage significantly. An induction cooktop, flush-mounted to the countertop surface, gave the kitchen a sleek, seamless look while also improving cooking performance. Under-cabinet outlets were installed to keep the backsplash clean and clutter-free.

The Transformation Process:
Charlie's involvement throughout the process was equally valued. His approach — honest, patient, and never pushy — built the homeowners' confidence from the first meeting. Louise noted particularly that Charlie never pushed for extras or changes beyond what had been agreed upon: "He can read you very well, and we just work within what we've agreed — and I think that's very important." His patience with evolving preferences was also on display throughout: "He was very patient, because this lady changes their mind every two minutes — and he was patient every time."

Why Bull Run:

Testimonial:
“Charlie came out with a plan that was totally unexpected and we were absolutely amazed. He could think outside the box, and he offered free of charge to put it on paper and give us a 3D presentation to see all the details of the layout. We didn't look back. It was absolutely perfect. The outcome was excellent — beyond our expectation. Absolutely much more than we expected, in fact.”
