When Sue and Jack Blair purchased their home in Alexandria, Virginia, in August 2021, they knew from day one that the kitchen needed to go. The space had already been remodeled once before, but it simply lacked the storage and functionality their family required. Within months of moving in, they reached out to Bull Run Kitchen & Bath — and what followed was a total kitchen transformation that literally moved walls, expanded square footage, and delivered a timeless, traditional design that looks as though it was always meant to be there.

This Alexandria kitchen remodeling project was far more ambitious than a simple cabinet swap or countertop upgrade. Sue and Jack came to Bull Run Kitchen & Bath with a bold vision: move the kitchen itself into what had previously been a dining room — originally a bedroom in the home's history. That meant knocking down walls, building new ones, addressing structural challenges, and reconfiguring the entire footprint of the main floor. The result is a kitchen that is both dramatically larger and better organized than its predecessor. Neighbors who had watched the project unfold were eager to see the finished product — and they were not disappointed. "Our neighbors have come over to see it, they were anxious to see it as well and they liked it," Jack shared. After six months of enjoying the new space, Sue admitted she can no longer even picture what the kitchen looked like before.

Design & Materials:
- Traditional-style cabinetry suited to the couple's classic aesthetic preferences
- White marble countertops and surfaces that lend the space a bright, timeless quality
- No microwave above the stove — an explicit client request that Troy honored in the layout
- Refinished original hardwood floors throughout, preserving the home's historic character
- Thoughtful placement of staples and essentials on the main floor, eliminating unnecessary trips downstairs
The attention to detail extended to every corner. Troy didn't simply listen to the clients — he pushed them toward solutions they didn't know they wanted, offering ideas for small details that elevated the kitchen beyond their original expectations.

The Transformation Process:
Sue and Jack were unambiguous in their praise for Bull Run Kitchen & Bath and designer Troy:
"We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bull Run in doing this sort of work — not at all."
"After six months I can't even remember what it looked like without this kitchen."
"Troy was certainly very respectful of the finishes that we wanted... he was just able to accommodate that so well that it just is — it's a great kitchen for us."
The couple noted that one of the deciding factors in choosing Bull Run was a personal referral: Bull Run had previously remodeled their daughter and son-in-law's kitchen and done an exceptional job. After seeing that work both in progress and completed, Sue and Jack knew who to call. In the end, the combination of design quality, responsiveness, and the trust they had already placed in Troy made Bull Run Kitchen & Bath the clear choice.
