When Dr. Teresa Tigart and her partner Sue Kylman bought their Woodbridge, Virginia home in 2021, they saw exactly what it was: great bones, terrible everything else. Built in 1980 and apparently untouched since, the house had pink carpeting, pink drapes, pink walls, wood beams on the ceiling, an orange sink, red-and-white tiles, and a kitchen that resembled — as the homeowners put it — a pizza kitchen. There was a literal red cross made of tiles on the bathroom floor. It was, in their words, awful "to the capital." But the structure was solid, the layout had potential, and with Bull Run Kitchen & Bath lead designer Troy Caswell guiding the transformation, the Woodbridge home went from 1980 to absolutely spectacular in what became one of the most ambitious and personal whole-home renovation projects in the company's history.

The scope of this Woodbridge whole-home renovation was extraordinary: two kitchens, three full bathrooms, a laundry room, a staircase reconfiguration, a half-bath conversion, a master shower expansion, the addition of a home office, a custom storage and craft room, and complete flooring, painting, lighting, and cabinetry replacement throughout the entire home. Every inch of the house was touched. Every surface was considered. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's team met with Sue and Teresa many times to work through the details, because a project of this scope and personal meaning deserved the time. Lead designer Troy Caswell describes the planning as extensive: "We sat down many, many, many times to discuss the needs and desires that they had and came up with these wonderful plans."

Design & Materials:
The downstairs bathroom was renovated in a Southwestern style, completing the trio of themed spaces. The overall color direction of the home was calm and gray — "very grey and peaceful," as Sue noted. Old brick in the kitchen area was painted, then replaced with new cabinetry that expanded the footprint. A fireplace was patched and made functional. The staircase was straightened from an L-shape to a more direct, age-friendly configuration. A pass-through arch was introduced on a load-bearing wall, flanked by window shapes that dramatically opened the space to light. New hardwood floors, LED lighting upgrades, and fresh paint brought every room into harmony.

Why Bull Run:

Testimonial:
“We bought the house in 2021 and we just loved it because it had really good bones. But it was stuck in 1980. It had pink carpeting, pink drapes, some walls were pink, there were beams in the ceiling — the kitchen was small and the sink was orange. We wanted to open it up, brighten it up, and modernize it. And we brought it into 2023 — and now into 2024 — and we're so happy with what we have.”
