When Susan Chandler decided to leave her single-family home and move into a condominium in North Bethesda, Maryland, she chose her new apartment for one reason above all others: the light. The space was flooded with natural brightness, and she knew immediately it was where she wanted to live. But everything inside needed to go — the finishes were old, the layout was inefficient, and there was nothing she wanted to keep. What followed was one of the most comprehensive full house remodeling projects in the Bull Run Kitchen & Bath portfolio: a complete apartment transformation spanning three and a half bathrooms, the kitchen, the master bedroom and its walk-in closet, the breakfast area, the laundry room, and all living spaces — unified under a cohesive, calming monochromatic design concept.

This Rockville-area full house remodel encompassed every square foot of Susan's North Bethesda apartment. New flooring was installed throughout. All lighting was upgraded with recessed LED fixtures. Every door and closet door was replaced. The kitchen was reconfigured with a relocated sink and stove to create a more functional workspace. A wall between the master bedroom and the breakfast area was pushed back to expand the dining space and incorporate a formerly underused window. Three and a half bathrooms were completely renovated — one of which was designed specifically to ADA accessibility standards with a curbless shower, widened doorways, and clear pathways to accommodate a wheelchair user. The laundry room was also updated with expanded shelving and storage.
Design & Materials:
Designer and project lead Charlie worked closely with Susan to develop the overarching design concept: a sophisticated monochromatic palette that allowed each room to flow naturally into the next. White cabinetry in the kitchen was paired with a soft white-gray quartz countertop. The backsplash featured hexagonal tiles with subtle gray tones and a touch of blue — just enough visual interest without disrupting the calm, unified aesthetic. Hardwood flooring was used as the intentional contrast point throughout the apartment, grounding the light palette with warmth. In the guest bathroom, white flooring, white subway tile, and a white vanity were accented with a glass mosaic tile feature wall, creating depth without introducing disruptive color. A large bubble-edge mirror expanded the perceived size of the room. The master bathroom featured an enlarged shower with a full-length built-in seat, a custom glass enclosure, and creamy, off-white tones on the vanity surfaces with a lightly veined countertop for subtle contrast. Fixtures in an oil-rubbed bronze finish were used throughout the apartment — on cabinet hardware, faucets, and accessories — to tie every space together seamlessly. The accessible bathroom was designed with care and precision: the doorway was widened for wheelchair access, a ramped threshold was installed at the entrance, and the curbless shower was built with sufficient depth and slope to serve a wheelchair user comfortably. Every element of this bathroom — from the vanity clearance to the toilet placement — was designed for direct, unobstructed access. The half bathroom off the foyer featured a design tile floor in orange and green tones that complemented the hardwood of the entryway, while the vanilla-toned vanity and rubbed oil bronze fixtures created a warm, cohesive moment.
The Transformation Process:
Charlie led the full house remodeling project with the same responsiveness and dedication that has made him one of Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's most trusted project managers. When a leak was reported by the downstairs neighbors on the very first night of construction, Charlie arrived in the middle of the night to assess and address the situation — going far above and beyond what was required and making the neighbors feel supported throughout. As Susan put it, "that said so much about him and them."
Throughout the project, Charlie guided Susan through design decisions with patience and respect, offering strong suggestions while always honoring her preferences. The team reconfigured the kitchen layout to separate the cooking and prep zones, moved the breakfast area wall to add square footage and bring in a window that had previously been trapped inside the master bedroom, and redesigned the walk-in closet with new shelving systems. Every change, large or small, was handled with professionalism.

Testimonial:
“I absolutely would recommend Charlie and Bull Run. They have fulfilled every single wish and request that I have made, and it's a pleasure working with him. I actually miss him — I'm going to have to come up with reasons for him to come over. My realtor, who does a lot of business in the DMV and is well known, has also recommended him — which I think is a big honor.”
