A Basement Bar and Master Bath in Alexandria, VA

Basement Bar: The bar was designed around the concept of a display wall with custom niches to showcase Terrence's whiskey collection. Charlie was the only contractor to recommend expanding the bar footprint outward — gaining two additional feet of depth from the original plan. That expansion was the difference between a functional bar and a showpiece. The basement design integrates built-in display niches, appropriate lighting, and finishes that create a sophisticated lounge environment. The finished space is exactly what Terrence had envisioned when he described a "bar of my dreams."

Master Bathroom: The vision was a classic black and white palette with modern updates — and the execution delivered. Tamara led the design direction, with Charlie helping to add contemporary elements that complemented rather than diluted the traditional aesthetic. Key design elements include:

- Titanium-finish shower heads and faucets — a modern, near-black tone that grounds the space and makes gold accents pop without feeling overdone

- Gold accent elements integrated throughout fixtures and hardware

- Triple crown molding in black, installed along the ceiling perimeter — an architectural touch that adds refinement and visual finish

- Quartz countertops with natural movement and color that — as Charlie noted — looks and feels like granite to the eye

- A six-foot-wide steam shower with three shower heads, built-in niches, and modern design elements

- A soaking tub as a focal point with modern design details around it

- Individual vanity areas for each homeowner, including a dedicated makeup space and adequate storage throughout

The black and white palette with gold accents and titanium hardware creates a bathroom that is simultaneously classic and modern — exactly the balance Tamara described as her vision.

The project ran approximately four months, during which the Bull Run Kitchen & Bath team was a consistent and professional presence in the Colors' home. The project manager and the broader crew maintained a standard that Terrence described as exceptional — and the relationship that formed during those months clearly transcended contractor and client.

"Charlie was the glue — he was the point guard of the situation," Terrence said. "But the contractors, the general manager for the job — everyone was professional the entire four months."

The experience was so positive that by the time the basement bar and master bathroom were complete, the Colors had already initiated a third project with Bull Run Kitchen & Bath: converting an office to a library and renovating the laundry room.

Terrence and Tamara's story illustrates the Bull Run Kitchen & Bath approach at its best: designers who listen and build creative, visual presentations that make the vision concrete; a full team of professionals who deliver on that vision month after month; and a client relationship that leads naturally to more projects.
