When Susan Chandler moved into her North Bethesda, Maryland apartment, she saw a space filled with light and potential — but everything in it needed to go. Every surface, every fixture, every layout decision had its day. Susan needed a full renovation partner, not just a bathroom contractor, and after receiving a flyer from Bull Run Kitchen & Bath in the mail and walking in on a whim, she spent two and a half hours talking with Charlie and knew she had found exactly that person. The comprehensive renovation that followed — three and a half bathrooms, kitchen, flooring, lighting, and structural improvements — stands as one of Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's most ambitious and beautifully executed projects in the DMV area.

This project was a full apartment renovation, with the bathroom remodeling work encompassing three and a half bathrooms — each with its own design brief and purpose. The guest bathroom, the accessible bathroom, the master bathroom, and a half bathroom were all transformed from dated, worn spaces into beautiful, functional rooms that share a cohesive monochromatic design language. One of the bathrooms was designed specifically as a wheelchair-accessible space for Susan's son, who uses a wheelchair. The ADA-compliant design was executed with the same attention to aesthetics as the rest of the renovation, proving that accessibility and beauty are not mutually exclusive. Charlie, Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's designer and project director, served as the single point of contact throughout the entire project. Susan described their working relationship as one built on trust, precision, and genuine responsiveness — including a remarkable instance where Charlie came in the middle of the night to address a water issue after the first day of construction.
Design & Materials:
- White flooring, white subway tile, and white cabinetry throughout

- Widened door opening to accommodate wheelchair entry and exit
- New threshold with an integrated ramp for smooth, barrier-free access
- Curbless shower with raised floor to provide proper drainage slope — a technically demanding detail executed correctly

- Direct clearance from entrance to toilet, shower, and vanity — full accessibility throughout
- Monochromatic color scheme consistent with the rest of the home, with a waterfall tile accent in the shower floor

Why Bull Run:
Testimonial:
“He came in the middle of the night with somebody else to check out what was happening and to try to make the repairs. That went above and beyond what anybody would do. Charlie and Bull Run fixed everything — and never really walked away. They couldn't have been better at taking over the responsibility that really was not theirs.”
