From Dated to Freestanding: A Bathroom in Alexandria

The master bathroom design centers on a bold, sophisticated palette that balances contrast and warmth. The black floor anchors the space and gives it a modern, grounded feel, while the wood-color vanities add organic warmth that keeps the room from feeling cold or sterile. The picket tile pattern on the walls brings geometric interest and a sense of height to the space, layering texture and visual depth without overwhelming the overall aesthetic. Every material selection was made with intention. The black-and-wood combination is a classic pairing in high-end bathroom remodeling, but the picket tile detailing is what elevates this Alexandria bathroom from stylish to genuinely distinctive. Throughout the selection process, Charlie guided Jim and Marty toward choices that would feel cohesive across the entire home — from the master bathroom to the honeycomb powder room floor to the herringbone tile details that appear elsewhere in the project. The result is a home where each space feels thoughtfully connected, not like a series of independent remodels but like a unified vision carried from room to room by a skilled team that truly listened to the homeowners.

Undertaking a full home renovation — particularly one that requires living in the basement for months — demands a contractor who can manage complexity without disrupting the client's trust. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's team delivered on that front. The project was completed on schedule, meeting the hard deadline of Jim and Marty's November wedding. That kind of reliability matters enormously when a family has reorganized their entire living situation around a construction timeline. Charlie's involvement throughout the bathroom remodeling process kept quality high and communication clear. His nitpicky attention to craftsmanship — noticing things that even the homeowners overlooked — meant that the finished product reflected genuine pride in the work, not just a rush to completion. For a project of this scale in Alexandria, Virginia, that level of care made all the difference.
