Some homes have a kitchen that you know, from the moment you move in, has untapped potential. For one family in Haymarket, Virginia who moved into their 2002-built home about a decade ago, the kitchen was exactly that: a space they appreciated in theory but knew could be better — better layout, more natural light, more storage, more room for the family to gather. After years of waiting for the right moment, they undertook their very first home renovation with Bull Run Kitchen & Bath. The result was a stunning organic modern kitchen that the family loves unreservedly.
This was the family’s first renovation of any kind in any home, which made the process of selecting a contractor especially important. They asked friends and neighbors for recommendations, Bull Run Kitchen & Bath made a strong impression from the first meeting. Designer Sully listened carefully, asked thorough questions, and established a rapport that gave the homeowners confidence they had found the right team. The family is busy — three kids, demanding professional schedules — and they needed a contractor that could offer a streamlined, full-service experience without requiring them to manage every detail themselves. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath’s structure fit that need perfectly. Good reviews, solid years of experience, and a designer who genuinely connected with the family’s vision were the deciding factors. The previous kitchen had several significant limitations: a darker aesthetic, a more closed-in layout, cabinets that extended into the sliding door area, and a counter island positioned between the kitchen and living room that broke up the space rather than unifying it. The goal was a total transformation — more open, more airy, more modern, and significantly more functional.
Design & Materials:
The design vision for this Haymarket kitchen remodeling project was guided by an organic modern aesthetic — streamlined, warm, sophisticated, and rooted in natural materials and textures. The homeowner had clear preferences and Sully translated those preferences into a design that exceeded expectations. The cabinetry selection was particularly meaningful. The homeowner had spotted a mini shaker style cabinet — simple in form but with a modern flair — and loved it immediately. Paired with a warm walnut finish, these cabinets create a rich, classic, sophisticated look. They are set against a warm white — not a stark or cool white, but a tone that adds warmth and contrast without competing with the walnut. The quartz countertop was another defining design decision. Rather than stopping at the counter surface, the quartz extends all the way up to the backsplash, creating a cohesive, seamless look that eliminates visual clutter and gives the kitchen a clean, modern feel. This detail was very important to the homeowner, who wanted a simple, streamlined aesthetic above all. The floors were refinished as part of the renovation, bringing them into harmony with the new cabinetry and finishes. The removal of the previous island and the reconfiguration of the cabinet layout opened up the space dramatically, allowing for better flow, more natural light, and the sense of openness that the family had always wanted.
The Transformation Process:
The renovation team — Hakan, Saana, and the on-site crew including Orlando/Ronaldo — were professional, communicative, and thorough throughout. For a family undertaking their first renovation, the guidance and reliability of the team made an already significant undertaking feel manageable. The process was described as "almost stress-free" — a remarkable description for a major kitchen remodeling project, especially a first-time renovation. The team communicated clearly throughout, keeping the homeowners informed and engaged without overwhelming them. Their professionalism showed in the quality of the finished work.
"This is our first time and they were very professional, very thorough. They communicated very well and I think it really showed throughout the project — and they made this a very seamless, almost stress-free experience."

Testimonial:
“I especially love this warm walnut finish — it's very classic, I think, and very sophisticated. And it goes well with this warm white, which I really like as well. I think it's just a nice contrast and it just works well together.”
