Andrea Wallington had been searching for the right contractor for three years. She found Bull Run Kitchen & Bath and was immediately drawn in by the volume and honesty of client testimonials on the website. She started with a master bathroom in mind. She ended up with a whole-home transformation: kitchen, master bath, guest bath, new flooring, and custom living room framework. And she stayed within her budget.

The Fairfax home presented a mix of challenges that Andrea had wanted addressed for years. The kitchen was dark and awkward — black countertops, very dark cabinets, and a non-functional island layout that cut off the work triangle and required circling around it every time she moved between the refrigerator and the cooktop. The master bathroom had broken granite and needed a full refresh. And throughout the main floor, the layout felt closed-off and dated. Designer Charlie Ostemish from Bull Run Kitchen & Bath arrived with a clear, practical vision. Rather than suggesting expensive structural overhauls, Charlie proposed solutions that maximized the existing footprint — particularly a game-changing recommendation for the kitchen island.

Design & Materials:
"It was like the light bulb went off," Andrea said. "He actually came up with an idea that will allow me to keep a larger island while moving my appliances — not cutting off my work triangle."
The result is a bright, functional kitchen that replaced dark cabinets and black countertops with a lighter palette and more efficient workflow. White cabinetry and updated countertops replaced the dark tones that made the kitchen feel like, in Andrea's words, "walking into a black hole."
In the master bathroom, Bull Run Kitchen & Bath created two sectioned personal areas with individual storage — one for each homeowner — and installed a curbless shower for easy access and a seamless, modern look. Hidden charging stations were integrated into the vanity columns, and the overall space was brightened significantly. The guest bathroom received updated finishes and a fresh look throughout. New flooring was installed across the main floor, tying together the brighter aesthetic. The living room received custom framework and improved lighting that the previous layout had entirely lacked.

The Transformation Process:
"Charlie worked miracles to work around all his customers," Andrea said. "We can start on your bathroom, we'll at least get that done and get that going — and they actually worked miracles around the fact that I was still waiting for a few things."
Andrea also changed the kitchen design five times as appliance decisions rippled through the layout. Through every iteration, Charlie adapted and kept the project on track. The kitchen design evolved across multiple revisions, and the Bull Run team saw it through.
