When Susan and Terry decided it was finally time to renovate their Arlington, Virginia bathroom — a five-by-seven space that had been mostly unchanged since the 1940s — they knew they needed a team that could handle both the challenge and the charm of working in an older home. They found exactly that in Bull Run Kitchen & Bath, whose designer and project manager Sam guided them through one of the most seamless bathroom remodeling experiences in the Arlington area.

This Arlington bathroom remodel presented unique challenges from the start. The bathroom was extremely compact at just five feet by seven feet, featured two doors, and contained an original bathtub, sink, and toilet — all squeezed into a layout that had served its purpose for decades but was long overdue for a modern upgrade. The goal was ambitious: transform this tight, dated powder room into a functional, beautiful bathroom that felt spacious despite its small footprint. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath's solution was elegant — replacing the bulky bathtub with a step-in shower that opened up the space visually and practically, delivering a bathroom that Susan described as "absolutely gorgeous."
The project also took place during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding an extra layer of logistical complexity. Despite that challenge, the Bull Run Kitchen & Bath crew showed up every day, maintained proper safety protocols including masks and social distancing, kept the workspace tidy, and never let the unusual circumstances affect the quality of their work.
Design & Materials:
The key design move in this Arlington bathroom remodel was the conversion from a traditional bathtub-and-shower combination to a dedicated step-in shower. In a five-by-seven bathroom, this single decision changed everything — freeing up floor space, simplifying the layout, and creating a clean, open feel that made the room appear significantly larger. The Bull Run Kitchen & Bath team is known throughout the Northern Virginia area for its attention to detail and its ability to make the most of compact spaces. This Arlington powder room is a perfect example of how smart design choices — rather than square footage — determine the quality of a bathroom remodel. Every element of the project was completed with precision. As Susan noted, anything that was not quite perfect was made perfect before the crew considered the job done.
The Transformation Process:
Sam, the designer and project manager assigned to this Arlington bathroom remodeling project, was the through-line for the entire process. From the initial contract and design consultations through daily coordination with the construction crew, Sam was present, responsive, and genuinely invested in the outcome. The construction team arrived each day prepared and in good spirits. They cordoned off their work area to protect the rest of the home, cleaned up at the end of every shift, and maintained a positive, professional demeanor throughout the project. Even when revisions were needed as the work progressed, Sam responded quickly and ensured adjustments were made without friction. Working in an occupied home during a public health crisis required flexibility and trust on both sides. Bull Run Kitchen & Bath met that trust fully, delivering a completed Arlington bathroom remodel on schedule while fulfilling all safety requirements.
